Welcoming Sha'baan

Alhamdulillah, the time of year I had been anxiously waiting for and looking forward to is finally here, Sha'baan and soon Ramadan! The wait seemed rather long, but I know that before we know it, these months are going to pass us by as if they never came. And it's true what everybody has been saying that, Ramadan seems to go by faster and fastery every year.

Every year, just before Ramadan, we make so many resolutions and promises with ourselves; so many things that we're going to do; so much to eliminate from our daily routines, but again.. things don't usually end up the way we always plan.
I am still working on my "list of deeds" etc. that I hope to live by starting today insha'Allah, and I pray that if I have to die this year, at least I have done those few things in order to be more loved and blessed by my Creator, Aameen.

In this entry, I wish to share some of the merits of Sha'baan that I came across. Of course, there's no limit of things that we can do to improve ourselves; Remembering Allah and always be asking for forgiveness is something we should always be doing. But it's good to go over certain things just as a reminder, and share those with others for perhaps it'll increase their knowledge and be beneficial for them as well.

Here's a beautiful article by Mufti Taqi Usmani: Sha'ban; Merits, Do's and Dont's

Just for the sake of emphasizing, or perhaps if someone doesn't have the time to read the whole article, I am going to outline certain important points from the article:

- The blessed companion Anas, Radi-Allahu anhu, reports that Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, was asked, "Which fast is the most meritorious after the fasts of Ramadan?" He replied, "Fasts of Shaban in honor of Ramadan."
- Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam said, "That (Sha'ban) is a month between Rajab and Ramadan which is neglected by many people. And it is a month in which an account of the deeds (of human beings) is presented before the Lord of the universe, so, I wish that my deeds be presented at a time when I am in a state of fasting."
- He,Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam also said, 'In this month Allah prescribes the list of the persons dying this year. Therefore, I like that my death comes when I am in a state of fasting."

The Night of Bara'ah or Laylatul-bara'ah (The night of freedom from Fire):
This is the night occurring between 14th and 15th day of Sha'ban. There are certain traditions of Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, to prove that it is a meritorious night in which the people of the earth are attended by special Divine mercy.
- Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, has said, "Allah Almighty descends (in a manner He best knows it) in the night occurring in the middle of Sha'ban and forgives a large number of people more than the number of the fibers on the sheep of the tribe, Kalb.
- He, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam also said, "This is the middle Night of Sha'ban. Allah frees in it a large number of the people from Fire, more than the number of the hair growing on the sheep of the tribe, Kalb. But He does not even look at a person who associates partners with Allah, or at a person who nourishes malice in his heart (against someone), or at a person who cuts off the ties of kinship, or at a man who leaves his clothes extending beyond his ankles (as a sign of pride), or at a person who disobeys his parents, or at a person who has a habit of drinking wine."

And I would highly suggest reading the latter part of the article. It talks about what should and shoudn't be done on the Night of Bara'ah. Also about the fast of 15th of Sha'ban.

Here's another article, if you wish to read more on Sha'baan insha'Allah: Sha'baan

Also, if you came across this entry (and insha'Allah benefited from it), share some of the things that you're hoping to achieve; or the improvements you're working towards; perhaps some short-term goals etc.? :)
